Lap Joint Flange/Loose Flange

What is a lap joint flange or loose flange?
Lap joint flange(LJ flange) also called loose flange,it consists two parts,the backing flange and the stub end.The stub end will be butt welded to the pipe,the backing flange will be slip around the stub end.The backing flange is not connected to the pipe or stub end directly and it could be rotated.So it is convenient to install the flange connection if there is some misalignment between the bolt holes.
